Mute On Location Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 13, 2026
Mute On Location is a macOS utility that mutes your Mac’s selected audio output at places you choose. The app is designed to work locally on your Mac.
What the app does with your information
Mute On Location does not:
- create an account or require sign-in;
- collect analytics or telemetry;
- show advertising;
- maintain a server or cloud database;
- sell, rent, or share your information;
- keep a travel history or movement history; or
- track you for purposes unrelated to the mute locations you configure.
Location information
If you use location features, macOS may provide the app with your current location so it can determine whether you are inside one of your saved Target Locations. Smart Monitoring can also use macOS location-condition events to detect when you enter a saved location.
The app stores your saved Target Locations locally in its macOS app container. A saved location can include its name, address, coordinates, radius, enabled state, and dates used for the local record. The app does not upload this information to the developer and does not retain a location history.
You can turn off Location Services for Mute On Location in macOS System Settings. Location-based features will then be unavailable until access is restored.
Maps, address search, and Apple services
The location editor uses Apple MapKit, Apple Maps display data, Apple local search, and Apple geocoding services. When you search for an address or use the current-location feature, the relevant search text or location request may be processed by Apple so Apple can return map, place, or address results. Map tiles and map content are also provided by Apple.
These Apple services are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy, not this developer’s own servers. Mute On Location does not receive or store a separate copy of Apple’s service data beyond the place information you choose to save locally in the app.
Audio information
The app reads the mute capability and mute state of your Mac’s current default audio output and can change that output’s mute state when automation is enabled. Audio content is never recorded, uploaded, or analyzed. The app does not request microphone access and does not control microphone input.
Notifications and login item
If you allow notifications, Mute On Location creates local macOS notifications about mute transitions. These notifications are generated by the app; the app does not send notification data to a developer server.
If you enable Launch at Login, macOS starts the app when you sign in. This setting does not transmit information.
Local storage and retention
Saved locations and app settings are stored locally using macOS app storage. Temporary location results used for an evaluation are held in memory and are not written as a location history. Removing a saved location removes it from the app’s saved local data. Uninstalling the app removes its app container according to macOS behavior.
Sharing and third parties
The developer does not share your app data with third parties. The app does use Apple system frameworks for location, maps, address search, geocoding, notifications, audio, and login-item support. Apple’s handling of requests made by those services is governed by Apple’s policies and system settings.
Security
The app is sandboxed and keeps its saved app data in its local app container. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but Mute On Location is designed not to create a developer-side copy of your data.
Children
Mute On Location is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app’s data practices change. The effective date above will identify the current version.
